Misty Mountain Chalets “A nature lover’s haven” is situated in a 280 hectare South African Natural Heritage Site on the spectacular Long Tom Pass (31 kilometres from Lydenburg and 24 kilometres from Sabie), Mpumalanga, South Africa. Perched at an altitude of 1700 metres above sea level in a malaria free area, Misty Mountain Chalets is uniquely set in mountainous countryside with majestic views across the escarpment and into the lowveld.

Misty Mountain Chalets is a relaxed, informal, family friendly, owner managed establishment. Our chalets are geared for couples or families, our tariffs include bed and breakfast but, for lunches and dinners, guests can enjoy superior country cooking from our extensive a la carte menu in the restaurant or self cater at their chalets. On a summer’s day, lounge around in the sun at one of our two pools, or huddle around the fire place on a winters night.

Misty Mountain has 27 chalet units (total of 84 beds) offering comfortable, country style accommodation with easy access to the restaurant and all other facilities. Our accommodation is (3) Star graded and accredited as Highly Recommended through the AA Quality Assured Accommodation Programme.

Further to the above we have full conference & wedding facilities, with seating capacity of approximately 80 guests. Function menus are available on request. Conference capacity range from 35-90 delegates and depends on seating arrangements.

For the sport enthusiast, Sabie offers a number of facilities for sports such as horse riding, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing & abseiling, white water rafting, caving and fly-fishing. A trip to the SAFCOL Forest Industry Museum is well worth it. This museum is the only one of its kind on the African Continent. Not only is it educational, but it’s displays fascinates both old and young alike.

Long Tom Toboggan

Africa’s only alpine coaster (sommerrodelbahn)– a unique, adventure tourism product.

Feel the wind in your hair and the thrill in your belly when you wind and whoosh around Mpumalanga’s Long Tom Pass mountains on the Long Tom Toboggan, the longest toboggan run in Africa with an impressive 1.7 kilometre track.

Simply hop on board your Long Tom Toboggan cart and prepare to take a deep breath when you reach a speed of 45 kilometers an hour during your three-minute ride, as you twist and turn through wild flowers and beautiful forest.

Walking Trails
